Lawmaker pitches raising minimum wage increase

For the second year in a row, a Democrat lawmaker has been pushing to raise the minimum wage in the Gem State.

"What it does is lift out some of those members of our community that work incredibly hard and paid a wage that is equivalent to indentured servanthood and forces them on to government subsidies," Boise Representative and Assistant Minority Leader Mat Erpelding explained.

Erpelding’s plan would raise the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $8.25 by this July. In 2017, it would raise up to $9.25.

The bill died last year in committee and lawmakers have already raised concerns about the bill during the current legislative session.

If the proposal doesn’t get an introduction in committee, Erpelding says he will introduce it as a personal bill.
