IDAHO — The Idaho Department of Transportation has opened up public comment on its long-range statewide transportation strategy plan.

ITD says the department's Long-Range Transportation Plan is updated every five years. The strategy document helps to guide future projects, assessing the state's transportation needs out to 2050.

“This policy document looks at current conditions, existing plans and future trends in Idaho and lays the foundation for ITD to continue to deliver on our mission of safety, mobility and economic opportunity,” Amy Schroeder, the division administrator for planning, said.

ITD says that the plan considers growth, travel demands, land use, safety, economic development, system reliability and anticipated revenue.

During last year's public comment period, ITD said that they had nearly 1,500 people participate, with many pointing to growth-related factors.

"Idahoans also indicated they wanted ITD to first focus on maintaining existing roads and bridges, investing in safety improvements and ensuring reliable system performance before pursuing major expansion or new transportation modes," ITD said.
