MALAD — Idaho State Police troopers are responding to a large number of crashes and disabled vehicles in snowy and icy conditions in eastern Idaho. The exact number of crashes was not immediately available.

High-speed north/south winds are creating drifting snow and visibility issues, particularly for east/west roads, according to an ISP news release.

Part of US Highway 26 has been closed by the Idaho Transportation Department.

Also, Malad Pass, and Interstate 15 around milepost 22, north of Malad, has low- to-zero visibility and white-out conditions due to snow and wind.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution if they must travel in the area.
