Water is snaking throughout the more than 500 miles of waterways in our area. Those canals can be deadly.
Irrigation managers are reminding the public to stay well away from the canals. They are not recreation areas and are deadly to people.
"Our guys are always working in pairs most of the time. But if someone falls in by themselves they're going to have a hard time getting out of the canal," says Greg Curtis with the Nampa-Meridian Irrigation District (NMID).
NMID says the water is cold and moving in the canals, which also feature steep sides that do not facilitate easily getting out of a canal.
Never leave children unattended if they are playing anywhere near a canal. Though it may look like open water, they are not intended for people to play in or near.
