The East Idaho Critical Incident Team is conducting an investigation involving a 16-year-old boy who was shot by a deputy in Chubbuck Friday night. Reports say he was running from a traffic stop and engaged in an altercation with the law enforcement officer.

The Bannock County Sheriff's Office told the Idaho State Journal that the teen was a passenger and ran from the vehicle during a traffic stop. The Sheriff's Office says the deputy chased him on foot and, when the deputy caught up with the teen, an altercation ensued. The Sheriff’s Office says that's when the deputy shot the teen.

The teen's condition wasn't available Monday morning. His name has not been released.

Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen couldn't be immediately reached on Monday. He told the Idaho State Journal on Friday that he believes the deputy opened fire because the deputy believed his life was in danger.
