TheInterfaith Sanctuary has a program called STEPS that provides a logical way out of homelessness.  It focuses on a series of logical steps customized for each customer to help escape the cycle of homelessness and move into a self-supporting mode in their lives.

"We now have 10 counselors whereas before we had 2," said Jodi Peterson of the Interfaith Sanctuary.

The first steps are establishing identity, and next steps include establishing stability in work, she says.

The program includes:

    Identification and official documents
    Health Insurance
Assess Physical Health and Mental Health
    Substance Abuse Assessment
    Education Assessment
    Employability Assessment
    Assess Income opportunities
    Financial Health
    Life Skills Assessment
    Housing
    Peer Advocate
