The countdown is on as we are just 12 days away from the official start of Spring.

Anyone with a green thumb is getting anxious and that includes board members for the Idaho Veterans Garden in Caldwell. They broke ground Wednesday on two additions to the garden. An office and a wheelchair accessible bathroom will soon be built.

The restrooms should be complete by the start of Summer.

"The local support that the veterans have for this has just blown me away," said Earl Gafford with Boise-based Gafford Construction Inc. that's donating their expertise and time with regards to construction of the bathroom.

"I'm just looking forward to it," said Rickey Williams, a U.S. Navy veteran who lives in Nampa. "I can't wait until the sun comes out, and we start getting some greenery in these boxes."

Engineering students from Caldwell High School made the shovels used for the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Idaho Veterans Garden is open to anyone in the community but there are a limited number of raised garden beds.
