PAYETTE — Thousands of weekend warriors were put to the test as the Spartan Race returned to Thomas Pence Ranch in Payette County.

This Spartan Race is the sprint style that takes athletes on a three plus mile obstacle course run and it challenges the Spartans in many different ways.

"I did not think it was going to be that intense," said Diego Ariza who ran his first Spartan Race. "Honestly that first little hike up the mountain was tough."

The Spartan Race takes endurance, strength and a whole lot of determination, but one of the unique aspects to the Spartan Race is the camaraderie and teamwork that encourages strangers to help each other and become friends out on the course.

"It is an experience where you are helping each other over every single obstacle," said Ariza. "You see a stranger struggling and you want to help them out."
