A Pocatello man has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in a 2015 crash that killed a 7-year-old girl.

The Post Register reports court records say the 61-year-old semi-trailer driver was traveling on Interstate 15 in November of last year when his tire blew out, causing him to lose control of the truck and hit a minivan head-on.

The crash killed 7-year-old Madelyn Holbrook of Blackfoot, who was sitting in the minivan’s passenger seat. Her family had been traveling back to Blackfoot after shopping in Pocatello.

According to court records, the tread on several of the semi's trailers, including the one that burst, was below inspection limits.

Bingham County Prosecutor Cleve Colson says the semi trucks driver is responsible for inspecting the vehicle, not the company.
