UNION COUNTY, ORE. — Travelers in eastern Oregon are advised to expect congestion at the many truck chain-up and chain-off areas along Interstate 84 and other routes.
As of Tuesday morning, dozens of commercial vehicles are stopped at the MP 280 westbound truck chain area, located about five miles west of North Powder in Union County, Oregon.
Oregon Department of Transportation officials say drivers can expect extremely slow travel through this area -- and all drivers are cautioned to watch out for each other.
Drivers are warned to slow down, drive according to conditions of road, and give room for vehicles pulling in or out of the chain site. Commercial vehicle operators are reminded that the chain up sites are only for installing or removing chains and not for parking.
