A HazMat exposure in Dietrich left one man dead and eight others were taken to the hospital Thursday. Lincoln County Sheriff Deputies and Shoshone Police Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man in Dietrich at 10:15 Thursday morning. When officers arrived, they found a canister of unidentified gas inside the home.

Eight other people were taken to local hospitals for the potential of HazMat exposure. St. Luke's Magic Valley received five patients for decontamination and treatment. North Canyon Medical Center received the other three. That facility went on lockdown according to their HazMat protocol and was not accepting new patients during that time.

Boise Fire Special Operations HazMat Team arrived to assist in the identification and decontamination process on the scene. The Department of Environmental Quality also responded to evaluate any danger or exposure to the local water source.

We'll update this story as we learn more, but there is no danger to the community.
