Gowen Field has added a new monument to Memorial Field to honor fallen soldiers of recent wars.
Commemorating soldiers of the 116th Cavalry, the monument features the names of soldiers killed in action and a battlefield grave marker.
Carved into the stone is the troop’s emblem is a quote that states, “May Your Sabre Always Be Sharp and Your Powder Dry.”
"We’ve been involved in almost every major conflict in some way, but most recently in Iraq in our deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom and again in Operation New Dawn," Major Chris Borders from the Idaho National Guard explained.
