BOISE, Idaho — The holiday season is all about giving and on Thursday, local elementary school students got all geared up with winter necessities thanks to Optum Idaho.

The "Give Cold Feet the Boot" campaign is a partnership with the State Department of Education and D&B Supply. Kids at Jefferson Elementary School walked away with new warm winter boots and a cozy pair of socks to make they are ready to make it through the winter.

"We know that far too many children come to school each day without proper footwear and we know that that has an impact on their learning ability, their physical health, their mental health," said Georgeanne Benjamin, executive director of Optum Idaho.

Jefferson Elementary is just one of the schools involved in Thursday's event. Several schools in rural Idaho will also get new boots and socks after the Thanksgiving holiday.
