Idaho drivers are seeing something unusual at gas pumps this summer: prices that are lower than normal.

AAA says it's because refineries across the nation were able to efficiently have a good supply of gas on hand, which meant fuel was always available for travelers and commuters.

A gallon of regular gas is only $2.87 as of Wednesday, eight cents less than last month.

"Gas prices have actually dropped everyday since Memorial Day, which is not at all typical. Usually they keep spiking, they get to Independence Day, and then they kind of flatten out, but we're actually thirty five cents cheaper than we were this time last year," said Matthew Conde, AAA spokesman.

With kids going back to school and stations switching to winter blend fuel, prices could drop even more in coming weeks.
