Garden City Police are now investigating a shooting late last week as a homicide. The victim, Paul Russell, Jr., 30, died Monday evening at a Boise hospital, according to police.
On Friday, Elena Pena, 27, was charged with aiding and abetting aggravated battery in connection with the shooting. She was arrested with her boyfriend, Lyle Corson, 34. Corson was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant.
Now, Ada County prosecutors hope to announce within the next two weeks if they will amend charges.
Reports say Pena had an argument with the victim’s friend near the intersection of 39th and Stockton Streets in Garden City. Pena then left the scene. Sometime later, Russell arrived and offered his friend a ride. Witnesses say people in a gray car showed up shortly thereafter, and shots rang out, at least one hitting Russell.
Police said Russell was originally hospitalized in critical condition.
“This is a senseless crime that has and will impact the lives of many,” said Garden City Police Chief Rick Allen. “I only wish those involved would have considered the ramifications of their actions prior to the shooting. Unfortunately, it is too late…”
Anyone who has information about the crime or who can provide police with additional details is urged to the Garden City Police Department at 472-2950 or Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS
