Firefighters on the Dry Creek Fire, burning six miles northwest of Stanley, have been able to strengthen perimeter lines and prevent any further spread of the 1,200-acre fire.

Firefighters aided by aerial resources were able to effectively attack the flames over the weekend.

“The fire is about 20 percent contained,” said Sawtooth National Forest spokesperson Julie Thomas. Officials hope to contain the fire by the end of the week, and could have it completely controlled by mid-September.

Highway 21 from Stanley to ten miles north of Lowman is open. A pilot car is assisting drivers through the fire area.
