A second weekend of extended Interstate 84 lane restrictions will begin this Friday evening, June 16th, between Nampa and Caldwell. Idaho Transportation Department officials said motorists should again plan for delays or avoid the area if possible.
“From 7 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, I-84 will be reduced to one lane in each direction from the Franklin Road Interchange in Caldwell (exit 29) to the Franklin Boulevard Interchange in Nampa (exit 36). Both directions of I-84 traffic will use the westbound side of I-84 while crews repave the eastbound lanes,” said ITD spokesperson Jennifer Gonzalez.
Eastbound drivers will have limited access to the on- and off-ramps at Franklin Road, Karcher Road and Northside Boulevard.
“ITD has scheduled the majority of construction during four weekends to keep the interstate open during the weekday commute. The work will be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather,” Gonzalez stated.
Construction on this section of I-84 was accelerated after harsh winter weather caused the pavement to deteriorate more quickly than anticipated. “The project will prolong the pavement life until additional capacity can be added to this section of roadway,” she added.
