Enforcement increase for unsecure commercial vehicle loads

In an effort to increase roadway safety, there will be "special emphasis patrol" by the Idaho State Police on the Interstate-84 Wednesday.

Unsecured loads on commercial vehicles are the primary focus of police safety specialists and motorcycle units, as they work together to minimize the danger of falling rocks, mud, and other debris.

Their focus, they tell us, is the safety of surrounding drivers.

“Not too long ago we had an incident out on highway 95, where a brake-can came off of a commercial vehicle, and went through the windshield of another commercial vehicle, and seriously injured the driver," said Lieutenant Shawn Staley for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Division of the Idaho State Police.

Trucks that are pulled over for driving with a shaky load are escorted to a temporary inspection point where the transportation department works to identify and resolve violations.

Last year’s patrol put 91 percent of pulled-over vehicles “out of service," according to police.
