As a result of overflowing flood waters from the Boise River, Idaho Parks and Recreation officials decided to close Eagle Island State Park Saturday morning citing safety concerns.

Flood waters have spewed onto the main road leading into the park and some hiking trails have also been flooded. Large fish can be seen swimming over some of the trails.

Access to the park is completely restricted until further notice.

"Right now it's affecting us so that it's actually getting into the park and affecting electrical transformers. We just had Idaho Power come in and turn the power off," Eagle Island State Park Manager Gary Shelley said.

Officials are working to protect the developed areas of the park in the center of the island. At this time they don't know if the flooding will cause any long term damage.
