BOISE, Idaho — An Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputy found fourteen heat-sealed bags of marijuana in the trunk of a car pulled over for a traffic violation on Interstate 84 early Wednesday afternoon officials said.
Carlos Rojas, 28, of Jerome and Carlos Zavala, 22, of Hazelton are now both being held in the Ada County Jail on felony marijuana trafficking charges.
The deputy pulled over a grey Nissan Sentra just before 1 p.m. on eastbound I-84, just east of Boise, when he noticed the car was following too close to a semitrailer, according to an Ada County Sheriff’s Office posting.
“It was during the traffic stop when the deputy smelled a strong marijuana odor coming from inside the car. Zavala, who was driving, did not have a valid driver’s license or a copy of the contact for the car, which is a rental from California,” the posting said.
“The deputy then searched the car and found a black garbage bag in the trunk with fourteen sealed packages of marijuana inside – with each weighing about a pound,” it added. “He also found a smaller amount of pot and some drug paraphernalia inside the car.”
