The Idaho Transportation Department is advising drivers to watch out for elk and deer that are migrating near Interstate 84 in the Mountain Home area (roughly between mileposts 77 and 104).

“Heavy snow in higher elevations has contributed to the movement of wildlife in southwest Idaho along several roadways, including I-84,” said ITD spokeswoman Jennifer Gonzalez.

Idaho Fish and Game Spokesman Mike Keckler said a timeline for how long this migration pattern may continue varies during winter months. “Drivers are encouraged to pay attention and be alert -- particularly at dawn and dusk, when wildlife may be on the move,” Keckler said.

ITD reminds all drivers to buckle up, pay attention and check 511.idaho.gov for the latest road conditions.
