After more than one hundred electric dock-free scooters descended on Meridian Thursday, police are asking that users ride responsibly.

"Not only will you get a D.U.I.," said Chief Tracy Basterrechea, Meridian Police Department. "But there is certainly potential for you to be injured very seriously on one of those."

In the case of sustained injuries or hazard concerns, police tell us the privately-owned company Lime is liable.

Chief Basterrechea also says, when possible, electric scooters are to be driven in bike lanes. He also says that riders should never leave unauthorized scooters on private property.
