Kody Ray Gibbs, 29, of Coeur d’Alene, was sentenced Monday in United States District Court to 6 1/2 years in prison, followed by fifteen years of supervised release, for possessing sexually explicit images of children, said U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson.

Gibbs pleaded guilty on June 22 of this year.

According to the plea agreement, a woman purchased an “open box” tablet computer last February from a local Coeur d’Alene business.

When she powered on the tablet, she found it contained images of child pornography, said a news release from Olson’s office.

Coeur d’Alene Police detectives determined Gibbs had purchased the computer previously, and returned it for a refund. Gibbs was interviewed by investigators and admitted to downloading child pornography, the release stated.

Gibbs will be required to register as a sex offender. He will also be required to complete sex offender treatment following his prison sentence.
