MERIDIAN, Ida. — The City of Meridian’s Parks and Recreation Department is set to open the first phase of Meridian’s newest regional park, Discovery Park, this Saturday.

Located in south Meridian, Discovery Park is full of unique amenities that focus on the theme of “discovery.” City leaders will hold a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Friday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. The park will officially open to the public on Saturday, July 27th with a Grand Opening Celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., complete with free ice cream, food trucks, music and fun in the sun!

The first phase of Discovery Park spans 27 acres and includes a climbing wall modeled after Idaho topography, dual zip lines, roller slides, a splash pad, fenced dog park, specialty gardens, illuminated softball fields, and more. Taking inspiration from all over Idaho, Discovery Park has incorporated some iconic symbols within its architecture, such as the state bird, flower, and tree as a celebration of all things Idaho. The park’s unique design promotes hands-on learning in combination with play.

Discovery Park offers the unique experience of discovery and education about the Gem State. Through amenities like the sand and water play area that teaches kids about water flow and dams while they build sandcastles, the park ensures a fun and educational experience for its visitors.

“Discovery Park is the first regional park to be built in south Meridian. It joins our two other large regional parks – Settlers Park and Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park – as an exciting destination for families and groups seeking space for recreation, large gatherings and community events. Discovery Park will continue to expand with additional recreation facilities and amenities as its future phases are developed over time,” says Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Steve Siddoway. “Discovery Park is very much in keeping with our mission to enhance our community’s quality of life by providing innovative parks, connected pathways, and diverse recreational opportunities that allow residents and visitors alike to create lasting memories.”

The City of Meridian invites the public to discover this new park for themselves. All are welcome to come down and experience the excitement of Discovery Park personally both during and after its grand opening on July 27th.
