MERIDIAN, Idaho — The City of Meridian will hold its 3rd annual Meridian Art Week from September 3-7, 2019. It focuses on the integral role art plays in the community. It's organized by the Meridian Arts Commission (MAC).
Events are designed to bring more awareness to the value that art adds to the Meridian through the beautification of public areas, providing a platform for community expression and dialogue, and enhancing the quality of life for Meridian residents. MAC will host a variety of activities such as an Art Drop, a Chalk Art Competition, Workshops, and more. People can also enjoy a dance performance or learn to dance themselves at a free lesson.
“Art Week is one of my favorite events each year. We have the opportunity to celebrate the importance that art has in making Meridian the well-rounded and beautiful City that it is.” Said Tammy de Weerd, Meridian Mayor. “My favorite activity is the Art Drop. I always look forward to both finding a new treasure and hiding my own creations. I encourage everyone to venture through Downtown Meridian during the week and find your inner artist.”
Several Meridian businesses will be hosting activities and showcasing local art throughout the week. The Meridian Arts Foundation will also hold its annual fundraiser, the Meridian Art Sip. During this year’s event, the Foundation will recognize four of their grant award recipients.
“The great thing about the week is that there is really something for residents of all ages and abilities.” Said Arts & Culture Specialist, Hillary Blackstone, “From active events where participants can learn to write or compete in a the Chalk Art Competition, to more passive events where they can sit back and enjoy some live music or a play – there is something for everyone.”
