After 20 years in the shadows of prison, Chris Tapp stepped into the light.

About 50 supporters greeted him outside the courthouse after Judge Alan Stephens accepted a deal exonerating Tapp of the 1996 rape of Angie Dodge, but left the murder charge on his record.

Angie Dodge's mother, Carol Dodge addressed the court with support for Tapp and contempt for investigators.

"I'm saddened I don't see Idaho Falls PD here representing my daughter and saying they'll help me find justice.  I'm so saddened.  But, I'm extremely extremely happy for you" Carol said. Carol went on to say "I hope that you will help me find justice for Angie."

A teary eyed Tapp can be seen mouthing the words "I will." As Tapp ponders his life as a free man, Carol Dodge and investigators are left with the shambles of justice. Tapp will not face parole but has lost his right to appeal.
