About 1:15 a.m. Monday, two inmates being housed in the protective custody unit of the Dale Haile Detention Center (the Canyon County Jail) tried to escape after assaulting a deputy.
“Neither inmate was able to get out of the secure area of the facility before being apprehended by additional deputies,” said Canyon County spokesman Joe Decker.
The investigation is ongoing and charges will be filed against the inmates involved, he said.
Their names will not be released until the investigation is complete.
“The deputy who was assaulted was treated and released for head injuries at a Caldwell hospital,” Decker stated.
No further information was available.
