After several escapes in the last 18 months, Canyon County Commissioners met today to discuss the future of the tent facility in Canyon County.

The sheriff and the commissioners came to the agreement that the jail would revert back to what it was intended to be, a work release facility.

Commissioner, Craig Hanson, offered a motion that would require the inmates to be moved out within thirty days. Hanson said it's a matter of safety.

"My opinion is that it needs to happen today. I know that it's not feasibly possible. However, the situation where I read into the record of the individuals, at least one specific that was being held there, that should have never been in that facility, is a problem for me now that I have that information," said Craig Hanson, Canyon County Commissioner

The other two commissioners voted against such a quick timeline, but they did reach an informal agreement to begin the process of moving some inmates out of the tent and into another jail.
