A California woman is doing her part to help America's veterans one step at a time.

Katie Strong is running across the country, starting in Oregon and going all the way to Washington, D.C. It's part of an effort to raise money for those who have served our country. She's raising money to help buy service dogs for veterans, especially those suffering from PTSD.

Strong is a psychologist, herself, and has three family members who have served in the military. She says that about 22 vets take their own lives every day.

"The main point is to just make people aware of that and then, instead of people saying, 'Wow. That's shocking. How sad,' and stopping there, say 'That's shocking. How sad,' and donate five dollars to help make a difference, because every time we pair a veteran with a service animal, we save that veteran's life," Strong.

In order to finish her run across the country, Strong will run 30 to 40 miles every day.
