Buses picking up students attending eight West Ada District schools are being delayed this morning, due to an active police situation along Amity Road, south of Meridian.
West Ada School District spokesman Eric Exline says the District texted parents whose children attend Mary McPherson Elementary, Victory Middle, Crossroads Middle, Lake Hazel Elementary, Sienna Elementary, Desert Sage Elementary, Mountain View High, and Renaissance High that bus pick-ups –- which usually occur between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. –- will be delayed, since drivers are having to use alternate routes.
Police have shut down Amity Road between Meridian and Ten Mile Roads due to an investigation of an officer-involved shooting and house fire on Amity Road.
Even though the suspect in the incident is still “unaccounted for,” according to police, authorities told the West Ada School District that shelters-in-place or lockdowns at the schools were not necessary at this time, Exline said.
“The closest school to the scene is Victory Middle School and that’s about two miles away,” Exline stated.
Pick-up times will vary depending on the which alternate routes the bus drivers have to take, Exline said.
