NEW PLYMOUTH, Idaho — A Bruneau, Idaho man is dead after a 2005 Ford Pickup truck drove off the right shoulder of I-84 south of New Plymouth Sunday night.

Around 5:35 p.m., Jon Michael Cason, 28, of Snyder, Texas, was driving east on I-84 when he drove off the right shoulder, over-corrected and came back on the road and went into the median. The pickup truck overturned and stopped in the westbound lane of travel. The crash happened around Milepost 11.

Cason and a passenger, Joseph Sykes, 33, of Bruneau, Idaho were ejected from the vehicle. Sykes died from his injuries at the scene of the crash.

Next of kin has been notified. Neither occupants were wearing a seatbelt.

Cason was transported by ground ambulance to Saint Luke's in Fruitland and later taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

The left eastbound lane was blocked for approximately two-and-a-half hours. The left westbound lane was blocked for approximately two hours and forty-five minutes while crews worked to clear the scene of the crash.
