The world record-setting, $1.6 billion Mega Millions jackpot drawing occurs Tuesday at 9:00 pm MT. Coupled with the third largest jackpot in Powerball history and this year’s $1,000,000 Idaho Raffle, Lottery retail locations all across Idaho report they are experiencing a heavy volume of player traffic. Lottery officials are calling it a “historic event” with “unprecedented participation.”

“One ticket can change everything. But we want to remind everyone participating in this historic event that it only takes one ticket to win,” said Idaho Lottery Director Jeff Anderson.

“There is no question there is a lot of excitement right now for all of our games in Idaho,” said Anderson, “There is a tremendous amount of activity and interest not only in the big jackpot games but also for the Lottery’s in-state games including this year’s Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle which started Sunday.”

“Buying more tickets doesn’t necessarily increase your odds of winning the jackpot,” Anderson said, encouraging ticket-buyers to “Play responsibly and only play what you can afford.”

Idaho’s last two, nine-figure jackpot winners won on tickets with only a few lines of play. Brad Duke won Powerball in 2005 on a ticket with only four lines of play. In 2011, Holly Lahti won Mega Millions with a five-line quick pick.

In addition to purchasing a ticket, the Idaho Lottery officials recommend participating players should be prepared to win. They recommend signing your ticket upon its purchase. Mega Millions and Powerball tickets are bearer instruments, meaning the Idaho Lottery will pay the individual who signs the ticket and legally presents it for payment.

Players who would like the opportunity to play for tonight’s historic jackpot have until 7:55 pm MT tonight to purchase their tickets, officials said.
