For the past week, local artists have been hard at work painting their designated wall space of freak alley.

"We started Saturday, and each day we're starting past 6 p.m., and, some nights I'll go as late as 3 or 4 in the morning. So...a lot of hours," said Charlie DeMaria.

Boiseans are celebrating the 8th Annual Freak Alley Gallery event with an unveiling of brand new murals like DeMaria's.

"I'm inspired a lot by my favorite artist Erté, and, like, old Vogue covers, and a lot of like, avant-garde fashion design."

Every summer, the gallery owner handpicks which murals will stay and which ones will get replaced.

"It kind of shows this evolution of the alley."

And DeMaria says it's important this tradition is upheld.

"It kind of adds like a new perspective to public art, and kind of gives it a better name than what it has in the past-- with grafitti, and, like being associated with vandalism and just street trash."
