With the holidays in full swing, many people are avoiding the malls and turning to the internet to make their purchases.
And criminals are feasting off of peoples packages.

"An opportunist  thief  can walk by your house, drive by your house and see the package sitting there."

We are just a week into the holiday season and Boise Police already have reports of stolen gifts.," said Ed Fritz, Crime Prevention Supervisor, Boise Police.

But you can outsmart today's criminal with a few tips.

"First and foremost, track your package," Fritz added. "This way you know when they are gonna be delivered."

Next, turn on those security cameras or have your packages delivered to an alternate location like your work or the post office.
Boise Postmaster Dan Corral said they have P.O. Boxes in all different sizes.

"We have the P.O. Box service so that you can have your mail secure at all times, we are able to put your mail in a parcel locker and a key in your locker," Corral said.

If that doesn't work for you, you can always sign up for their info delivery.

"What that allows you to do is manage all of your mail. We will be able to give you alert and emails when your parcel will be delivered and an hour alert before delivery.

Just a few ways to outsmart the Grinch.
