BOISE — Boise officials are looking to expand the city's smoking ban to include e-cigarettes.
The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to advance a measure that would amend the city's Smokefree Air Act to prohibit vaping in many public places.
The ordinance would ban e-cigarette use in the same spaces where smoking is prohibited -- including public properties, bars, public transportation areas, parks and some commercial outdoor patios.
Council Member Holli Woodings proposed the ordinance, saying the effects of e-cigarettes are now better understood.
The city had exempted e-cigarettes when the smoking ban was passed in 2011, citing a lack of scientific studies on their use.
