Libraries throughout Boise gave away free special eclipse viewing glasses within about thirty minutes Tuesday morning.
The library received the glasses through grants from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The Boise Public Library in downtown Boise received about 1,000 glasses through the grant, other libraries in the district received about 250 glasses each, according to Library spokesman Kevin Winslow.
“We had lines around the block of people waiting to get their glasses,” he said.
Even Boise Mayor Dave Bieter was on hand Tuesday morning to help hand out the glasses. He was at the Boise Library at Cole and Ustick Roads.
The glasses have specially-designed lenses so as to allow wearers to view the eclipse without damaging their corneas.
But if you missed out on getting your glasses and would still like a pair, don’t worry.
Beginning August 15, Six On Your Side will be offering free viewing glasses at various locations in cities that are in the path of totality. Glasses will be available at Steve’s Hometown Chevrolet, Buick, GMC in at 915 S. Main Street in Payette, Steve’s Hometown Motors on Highway 95 in Weiser, and at Steve’s Hometown Toyota, just off exit 376-A in Ontario, Oregon. Supplies are limited.
Also, the Nampa Public Library will be offering the free glasses on the day of the eclipse. A library spokesperson tells us the glasses will be available beginning about 10 a.m. at the Library at 215 12th Avenue South. The glasses distribution will coincide with a viewing event to be held at the top of the parking garage adjacent to the library.
