Hundreds of skiers and snowboarders are hitting the slopes of Bogus basin for its opening day.
After several snow storms and with the help of two new snow guns the ski resort started operations weeks ahead of recent years. Both the Coach and Deerpoint lifts are running this weekend. It's enough to bring more than 500 people to the mountain.
"This is perfect weather for us," Communications Director John Hart explained. "We had the storm system come through and drop snow and now the sun is out and we have beautiful blue skies."
It's a good start to the season, and resort managers hope today's turnout is the start of a good year. That is needed, says Hart, because the last couple seasons have had low snowfall and low skier turnout.
For the time being the lifts will run Friday through Sunday during the day. Operations will only run on weekends until more snow falls.
