As the Cherry Road fire continues to burn west of Homedale, the Vale Bureau of Land Management is planning an emergency gather of wild horses.

The Cherry Road fire has burned around 90% of the wild horse basin pasture, where more than half of the 279 horses reside. Right now there's limited water and food in the area. The Vale BLM plans to gather 150 horses and transport them to the wild horse corral facility in Hines, Oregon. There, the horses will be prepared for the adoption program.

BLM officials say there is no official start date for the horse gather, but they may start as early as today.
