MERIDIAN, Idaho — A Texas woman is behind bars after police say she attempted to kidnap her biological child Sunday afternoon at the Holy Apostles Church in Meridian.

A press release from the Meridian Police Department says 27-year-old Eden Hope Rodriguez attempted to abduct her eight-year-old child, despite not having custody.

Police believe the attempted abduction happened as the child was exiting a church service. Officials say the child's legal guardian wrestled them free and took shelter inside the church.

Rodriguez left the scene on foot through the parking lot, according to police. She was found at the office of her attorney in the child custody case involving the eight-year-old.

She was booked into the Ada County Jail on a $200,000 warrant for the attempted abduction.
