The Apache helicopters at Boise's Gowen Field are gone.

The choppers were officially pulled into the active duty army this morning, but that does not mean the rotary wing mission at Gowen is over. Change is the only constant in the military.

It was just four years ago, when it was announced that 24 new Apache Longbows would arrive at Gowen Field. That number was eventually downgraded to 16.

Regardless, the army wants them back.

As the last five Apaches fly off to Utah, Gowen is preparing for its new mission -- the Blackhawk.

The Blackhawk has been a fixture at Gowen for decades.
