BOISE — For families experiencing emergencies, like wildfires, Albertsons and the American Red Cross are increasing efforts to get those in distress emergency supplies.
Albertsons' customer donation program from August 1st to the 21st is dedicated to serving the red cross. Customers can donate money at checkout will go towards disaster response.
Supplies like shelter, food, medication, and cots aren't free, which is why they're fundraising. Local firefighters and red cross personnel went down last to the devastating California wildfires last year and saw the need first-hand for these supplies
"This is the time of year where we start to see the smoke, and we'll be starting to set up shelters for any wildfire that happens, so the bulk of the money goes towards those operations," said American Red Cross Regional CEO Nicole Sirak Irwin.
The treasure valley has had a wet spring, but the American Red Cross is preparing for the wildfires that could come to Idaho any day. They encourage everyone to have an emergency kit. Red Cross says if you can't donate money, consider donating blood because there's currently less than a three-day supply of blood across the country.
