American Red Cross asks for blood donations

The American Red Cross is asking for your help right now.

They say they are always in need of blood donors but, the severe weather has caused about 250 blood drives to cancel in the month of March.

They provide donations to not only local hospitals, but hospitals all over the country.

Currently, they say they are in significant need of A-B plasma donors and platelet donors. They also need O-negative which is the universal blood type.

They say blood donations do have a shelf life.

"So, we need constant donors coming in because it is a product that does expire with time so it really is important for you know, more of the population to come out and donate," said Cassandra Wagner, American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross says about 38 percent of the population is eligible to donate, but they see about eight percent donating.

If you are interested in donating, you can head to http://www.redcrossblood.org/ and you can find blood drives that are near you. You can also download the free blood donor app.
