Every year following the harvest, pantry shelves at Idaho State Veterans homes throughout the entire Gem state are fully stocked.

The effort is a great example of veterans serving veterans.

American Legion Auxiliary of Idaho members dropped the items off Saturday morning in Boise.

The idea is to free up some money within the Veterans Affair's budget so that other programs can thrive.

"This is our thank you, and we will never forget them. And, we will always take care of them," said Judy Gill, American Legion of Idaho Department president. "We will keep that promise."

This has been a long-standing tradition for the American Legion members since 1983.

Donations in the form of clothing and food are taken year round. Items can be dropped off at any American Legion office or veteran home.
