City officials in Boise have discovered bacteria in pond number 1 at Esther Simplot Park.

Pond number 1 is the larger of the 2 ponds in the park and it includes a children's beach area. The algae can produce toxins under the right conditions.

The pond is now closed to all recreation activities while tests are underway to determine that it's safe. The swimming area at Eagle Island State Park is also currently closed due to algae concerns.

At this time Esther Simplot Park pond number 2 and Quinn's pond remain open.
