BOISE, Idaho — Drivers should expect delays on Veteran's Memorial Parkway near the bridge between Adams and State Street. According to the Ada County Highway District, crews are set to begin replacing a couple of sections of the sidewalk that experience heaving and buckling because of high temperatures.

ACHD said in a news release that thermal heaves in sidewalks are common in the summer. Prolonged high temperatures can cause the concrete to expand, and bucking can happen when the expansion overwhelms the spaced provided at the joints between slabs.

There are no structure concerns with the bridge as the sidewalk heaving is on the hillsides before to the bridge. Starting August 17, northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane and flaggers will be helping pedestrians and bicyclists.

The work is expected to last around seven days. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes when possible.
