CALDWELL, Idaho — In honor of National Truancy Prevention Month, the Canyon County Juvenile Probation Department held their fourth annual Kicking Truancy Community event today.

The free event at Griffiths Park in Caldwell aims to build community partnerships in the fight against truancy by keeping kids engaged in the classroom.

Elda Catalano, the chief juvenile probation officer in Canyon County says, "Our children are our future, our children need sometimes some help and we are here to hopefully keep them out of the juvenile justice system and with their families doing well."

The family-friendly event was complete with free food and drinks as well as free activities such as a kickball tournament, bounce houses, a dunk tank, and face painting. There was also a free raffle with drawings for backpacks, school supplies, shopping vouchers, and bicycles.
