NAMPA, Idaho — The Nampa Bow Chiefs have called their indoor shooting range home for nearly 40 years, but the organization’s history stretches back much further.
Club President Tom Foster says the Bow Chiefs formed in 1957 and became Idaho’s longest continuously running archery organization.
Today, nearly 300 children and adults participate in the club’s target-shooting leagues, competitions and archery education programs.

“It’s been about providing a basis for education for archery, both for target and outdoor hunting, basically,” Foster said. “They’ve also always put a big emphasis on families and it being kind of a family club that this is a sport that the whole family can do.”
That family focus is what brought Foster to the Bow Chiefs. He enrolled his daughter in the club’s youth program while she was struggling socially in middle school.
“She absolutely loved it. She made some great friends, and so that’s kind of how I got involved,” Foster said. “The year after that, my other three daughters, we put them into it, same results.”
Foster eventually became the club’s president. He says the organization continues providing a place for families to learn archery and compete together nearly seven decades after it began.
