Kohl’s Now Has An Adaptive Clothing Line For Children With Special Needs

Kohl’s is making moves to be even more of a go-to destination for families. In an effort to truly deliver on meeting their customers’ unique needs, the retailer is launching sensory-friendly and adaptive clothing for kids with special needs.

The new additions will be available in three of the retailer’s private-label brands including Jumping Beans SO  and  Urban Pipeline , according to a press release .

The clothing will offer features such as abdominal access, wheelchair -friendly options and more. Items come in sizes for babies all the way to juniors and young men. The items are specifically designed to make kids’ and parents’ lives a little easier, without sacrificing style. You can expect the same fabric quality, print options and style selection you already know and love from Kohl’s, as they’ve really gone above and beyond to exceed expectations with these pieces.

One reason the team put so much love and care into this project is because it hit close to home for them. Kohl’s technical design manager for kids, Judy Koepsel, was heavily involved with the project. She is also the mother of a three-year-old daughter with unique developmental and sensory needs.

“It really gained steam after Judy got wind of it,” Stephanie Curtis, associate product manager for girls sportswear, said in a statement. “When the product design team introduced the idea to our partners, everyone felt a personal connection to this cause. It’s a heartstring project, and enthusiasm to make it happen was really easy to come by.”

Through forming a group of Kohl’s employees whose lives have been touched in some way by family members with a disability or complex medical needs, the team was able to make technical design decisions that would help a wide variety of kids and caregivers.

“We aligned on what needed to be considered when fitting, such as how a pant fits when sitting down, could the pockets still be used, is the shirt long enough to cover in the back, and so forth,” Koepsel said in the press release. “Everyone involved was extremely thoughtful as to how the product would be used.”

In doing so, the team has created pieces that will make it easier for even more kids to express themselves through their sense of style. The clothing is meant to have designs that mirror their counterparts in the core line, and to allow kids to wear them to gain confidence in their abilities.

The adaptive items are already available to shop online and range in price from $6.99 to $50. Many are currently on sale.
