If you have little ones that love crafts or other hands-on projects, Home Depot’s free kids’ workshops are a great way to keep them busy and give them the confidence to make things on their own.

The next workshop is happening March 7 from 9 a.m. to noon and will have your kids creating their own binoculars, so they can set out on a bird-watching adventure (or anything else they’ll need binoculars for!) after they’re done.

Kids attending the workshop will develop hands-on skills by gluing, hammering and more, with help from parents and store associates, of course. All attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times.

In addition to keeping their new binoculars, all kids will receive a certificate of achievement, a workshop apron and a commemorative pin, while supplies last. You do need to register your child in advance and can do so by selecting your local Home Depot on the company’s website.

Home Depot

If there are no Home Depot stores near you, Lowe’s also has free kids workshops, which used to be limited to select areas, but have recently expanded to all locations.

The first Lowe’s kids’ workshop is Valentine’s Day themed and is happening on Feb. 8. Your child will be able to make a love note holder, which will hold all the Valentine’s cards and treats your child may receive at school.

Space is limited and the event is only a few days away, so make sure you register your child soon.

Lowes

If you can’t make it to that workshop, the next one at Lowe’s will be on March 14. Your little DIY-er can make a fun tabletop basketball game in that workshop, which lasts about 15-30 minutes. Registration opens Feb. 8.

Lowe’s also offers a similar workshop for adults, which aren’t free but will have you building and taking home a keepsake. On Feb. 29, adults will be able to make their own time capsule. Registration for this one opens on Feb. 15.

At the workshop event, you can purchase the supplies and assemble a keepsake time capsule with the help of Lowe’s associates. Assembly assistance is provided in-store and you can customize the homemade box with a wood-burning kit.
