BOISE — Boise Police, Boise Fire and Ada County paramedics are on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Cole Road and Emerald Street in west Boise that police say started with a series of hit-and-run crashes in the Meridian area.

The crash happened about 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Cole Road is blocked from Fairview Avenue to Barrister Drive. The nearby intersection of Emerald and Rifleman Street is also closed. Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.

According to police, a series of hit-and-run crashes earlier in Meridian culminated with the Cole/Emerald crash.

In an e-mail, Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea said, “Here is what I know so far. The driver of a blue Hyundai Tiburon hit a suburban on I-84/Linder, then hit a van on the exit of Meridian Road/I-84. (The driver) proceeded north on Meridian Road and ended up going eastbound on Franklin Road, hitting two (additional) vehicles at Franklin/Eagle. (The driver then) continued eastbound and ended up going north on Cole, where they were involved in a serious accident at Cole Road and Emerald.”

A male driver and female passenger both had to be extricated, police said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating the multiple accidents, including the Idaho State Police, the Meridian Police Department, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office and the Boise Police Department.
